Ajami — the quieter side of Jaffa. עג'מי — הצד השקט של יפו.

The compound is in Ajami, the residential slice of Jaffa that sits just below the old port. It's less touristy than the old city, more lived-in than the Tel Aviv promenade, and full of small details: low stone houses, Armenian bakeries, surf shops, family-run kitchens that don't bother advertising.

Over the past decade Ajami has become a favorite pocket for people who want to be close to the beach and the port without dealing with the noise of Allenby or the crowds of Old Jaffa. It still feels like a neighborhood, not a destination.

Ajami neighborhood

Midron Park

A long, terraced park on the cliff above the shore. Good for running, dog-walking, or catching the sunset on a bench. Barely crowded even on weekends.

פארק מדורג ארוך על הצוק שמעל החוף. טוב לריצה, טיול עם הכלב, או צפייה בשקיעה על ספסל. כמעט לא עמוס גם בסופי שבוע.

Peres Center

The angled concrete-and-glass building visible from the waterfront. Hosts cultural events and exhibitions open to the public.

Jaffa Port

A working fishermen's port turned food and gallery hub. Our favorite spots are the fish restaurants on the pier and the fruit stand that's been there for decades.

Old Jaffa

Narrow lanes above the port with galleries, small shops and a few good restaurants. Touristy by day, very quiet after dinner.

Food & Flea Market

Ten minutes away, a dense knot of restaurants, bars and second-hand shops in the Jaffa flea market area. Good enough that Tel Avivians come down for dinner.

עשר דקות משם, אזור דחוס של מסעדות, ברים וחנויות יד שנייה באזור שוק הפשפשים. טוב מספיק בשביל שתל אביבים יירדו לארוחת ערב.

Sea & Sunsets

The sea is visible from most of the compound. Sunset over the water is the built-in feature that doesn't appear in any spec sheet.
